Susfab is the author of two books: Death of a Past Life (creative nonfiction) and Falling Off the Catwalk (memoir). Both works draw from lived experience and historical record to explore identity, rupture, and reinvention.
Death of a Past Life
Three generations face the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century—the turmoil of the Russian revolution, the vicious arbitrariness of Stalin’s purges, mass famine during the siege of Leningrad, the bombing of Berlin during the Nazi’s final days—and relentlessly fight to insure the survival of their family. Robert Reincke bases this historical, creative non-fiction novel on the reminiscences of family members that allows us to glimpse at stories never before told.
Falling Off the Catwalk
A former born-again Christian comes to terms with his gayness and finds love by becoming an international male fashion model in the mid 90’s. Robert has a seemingly ideal life, a secure job, a string of pretty girlfriends, and a condo in a SoCal beach town. Conflict between this outward success and his inner turmoil prompts him to run away to Europe.
Set during a slip from sobriety that eventually becomes a fall, “Falling Off the Catwalk” recounts a year and a half of global debauchery, sex with girls and boys, and absinth and acid trips in Tokyo. It details events more than analyzes them in an effort to maintain authenticity.
Robert uses extensive journals, videos and pictures to recreate the exact events as they took place. Live video recordings taken during the first days of Robert’s adventures in Paris and Milan can be found on his YouTube Channel: @Susfab.
